To a Maori Artist there is no distinction between art and craft. Together they exist within a parallel universe of living mahi creating eternal sacred thread.

Creative works themselves become a spiritual conversation on earth

The physical spirit of our creation offers new meanings behind the object of our Mahi.

Energy lines of earth and matter pass by thought as the mahi commences. This we call the wairua of our bones.

Shapes and colours of storytelling

We highlight nature in our weave as a vessel seeking stairway patterns from the stars of Matariki to the flax woven floors of the wharenui.

Spirit   Conception   Creation        ... birth from life

Te Aho Tapu the sacred thread. For us Poutama is a sacred name meaning much more than words as we recite our ancestry to connect with the land and skies above.

Navigating by the stars

We evolved in the stars, descended from their creative weaving patterns, streamed timelessly in light threads of blood across time land and sea.

Past, present and future are spirals of life weaving stories within stories all contained in an individual work of inner spirit.

The act of creating

a process of Ka

The afterbirth of the child is buried beneath the family tree. Each family even now have one special tree used for this custom passed down for generations.

Nutured by love Maori acknowledge the ongoing births of their mokopuna into the tribe with differing rituals and customs to celebrate life.

Some mokopuna were chosen from birth to be trained in the practises of Maoridom.
